Class and Program Overview

FENCING CLASSES AND TRAINING PROGRAMS DESCRIPTION

An overview describing the progression of our Classes and Training Programs is shown below. The IFC has been training fencers for over 35 years.  Our goal is to provide a very affordable program that enables our students and members to effectively and continuously improve their skills.

Beginning Fencing Class

The first class in our series is the Beginning Fencing Class.  This six week class utilizes the foil to teach the basics of fencing. We supply all of the equipment, allowing students to try the sport without having to make a large investment. Classes are announced in Upcoming Fencing Classes panel on our home page.  Students are required to be at least 8 years of age for safety reasons.

Beginning Épée Class

The second class in our series is the Beginning Épée Class.  This six week class teaches the basics of épée fencing, building on the skills learned in Beginning Fencing.  Students are required to be at least 8 years of age for safety reasons. The class uses electric épées and fencing strips, giving students the opportunity to experience the competitive fencing environment.  All of the equipment is provided.  Classes are announced in the Upcoming Fencing Classes panel  on our home page.

Intermediate Foil and Épée Training Programs

After completing the two beginning classes, students who wish to continue to fence are encouraged to join the Indianapolis Fencing Club.  Members enjoy many benefits including unlimited participation in  the Intermediate Foil and Epee Training Programs.  Participants in these programs must provide their own full set of electric fencing equipment.

The Intermediate Training Programs are targeted at beginning to intermediate fencers and consist of coach-led group warm-ups, stretching, and footwork/bladework drills; structured bouts in various tactical situations; and bouts with coach observation.  These programs are, in effect, an on-going group training session designed to help fencers continue to improve their skills.  IFC members may participate in any or all of these activities based on their skill level and on their personal goals.

Intermediated Foil Training is offered on Mondays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

Intermediate Épée Training is offered on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

Private Lessons

The final piece of our training program consists of private lessons.  Private one-on-one instruction can greatly accelerate a student’s progress toward reaching their goals.  Private lessons are offered for every level of ability from beginners to advanced competitive fencers.  Private lessons are offered at an additional cost and may be scheduled with the Coach of your choice. Please discuss the cost and details with your Coach.

Please contact your Coach or the IFC (wingetbill@yahoo.com) if you have any questions about any of our Classes or Training Programs.
